Face Moisturizer

Disclaimer: I am NOT a professional. I am just a new mom experimenting with DIY projects and sharing my experiences along the way!

Like most new moms…. I don’t have time for makeup! Also – I just don’t love wearing it anymore. My goal is to have clear enough skin that I feel confident enough without it!

I have been using my first homemade face moisturizer for over a month and love it! What I initially looked up was “3 ingredient face moisturizer recipes.”

This is the recipe I found by Root and Revel.

What I ended up using based on the ingredients I personally had was:

  • 1/2 cup raw shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons castor oil
  • 20 drops lavender oil

I simply melted and stirred the ingredients in a mixing bowl over simmering water, poured it into a glass container, and let it cool and solidify in the fridge.

Pros – Smells great, moisturizes and makes skin GLOW for an extended period of time, recipe lasts 6 months naturally since there is no water, & it seems to improve my complexion!

Cons – Quite oily (I pat my face with a clean face towel following applications) and not easily spreadable with only being able to use a tiny amount at a time. My face gets a bit red, but only right after applying.

What I will try next time – I am curious if I would prefer almond oil vs. castor oil. I also think I am going to try whipping the mixer while it cools down to see if that will make the consistency more fluffy and less oily.

Will update!
